Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End anime announced on Tuesday that the premiere date is set for 2023 and also revealed a new illustration by Tsukasa Abe, the manga artist. The manga is being serialized with the story written by Kanehito Yamada in Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday. The anime adaptation was announced in September 2022 along with a teaser visual.
The newly-released illustration shows the protagonist Frieren sitting at the center between Feren (right) and Stark (left). They are watching footage of the hero Himmel pretending to be cool. “Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End TV Anime Will Broadcast in 2023!” is written above them.
Tsukasa Abe has been drawing the Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End manga with story written by Kanehito Yamada in Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine since April 2020. The series released the first compiled volume in August 2022 and the latest, 9th volume in September 2022. Viz Media licensed the manga for English releases and the 7th volume is scheduled to be released on January 17, 2023. The official website describes the plot of the series as:
Elf mage Frieren and her courageous fellow adventurers have defeated the Demon King and brought peace to the land. With the great struggle over, they all go their separate ways to live a quiet life. But as an elf, Frieren, nearly immortal, will long outlive the rest of her former party. How will she come to terms with the mortality of her friends? How can she find fulfillment in her own life, and can she learn to understand what life means to the humans around her? Frieren begins a new journey to find the answer.
